PHOENIX, July 7 (UPI) — Leaving a 73-win team for a 23-win team can’t be easy.
But that’s what Leandro Barbosa did Wednesday, when he announced he was leaving the Golden State Warriors for the Phoenix Suns.
”#DubNation!!! Playing for the Warriors was an honor and I will forever cherish my two years here with my teammates, coaches, front office members, ownership, and, of course, the fans,” Barbosa wrote on Facebook.
“The Warriors and their fans are first class, and to be a part of our championship in 2015 and our 73 win team this past season were some of my most exciting times of my life. I am so grateful to the entire organization, for taking a chance on a player who was coming back from an ACL injury and was trusted to play for such a team. It’s bittersweet leaving, but I am just as thrilled to return to Phoenix, another home for me! Until next time #DubNation #NewChapter #BeepBeep.”
Barbosa, 33, won a championship with the Warriors in 2014. He averaged 6.4 points, 1.7 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game this season.
Barbosa has averaged 17.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game in 13 NBA seasons. On July 4, the San Jose Mercury News reported that Barbosa is playing for Brazil in the Olympics.
