BEVERLY HILLS , Calif., Aug. 31 (UPI) — Netflix says it has ordered a second season of its hit, sci-fi series Stranger Things.
The nine, fresh episodes are scheduled to debut in 2017. The story will take place in the fall of 1984.
Writer-creators Matt and Ross Duffer will return to helm the sophomore edition, but no casting or plot details have been officially announced yet.
Season 1 starred Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Natalia Dyer, Cara Buono, Charlie Heaton and Matthew Modine.
The streaming service described the 1983-set, first season — which focused on the disappearance of a young boy and his friends’ and family’s efforts to save him — as “a love letter to the supernatural classics of the ’80s.”
The Duffers said in a recent interview with IGN that a “hypothetical Season 2” would likely feature justice, but no return, for Shannon Purser’s dead character Barb. The filmmakers also hinted Modine’s Dr. Martin Brenner could be back since his fate was left unclear.
