SECAUCUS, N.J., April 19 (UPI) — Rail service between New York City and New Jersey was interrupted for a couple hours Tuesday afternoon due to a large brush fire that burned too close to some tracks near Newark, officials said.

The fire, near Secaucus, delayed service on Amtrak and New Jersey Metro lines and rerouted some of the lines as firefighters battled the blaze.

A timetable on the service interruption wasn’t immediately known, but Amtrak said its service in the Northeast Corridor had been restored by 3 p.m. local time. New Jersey Transit said its service had also resumed.

The brush fire began just after noon Tuesday and the stoppages started about an hour later.

Officials said the fire started near the tracks at Penhorn Avenue and Secaucus Road, not far from the New Jersey Turnpike, about 10 miles east of Newark. No injuries were reported.

Earlier this month, Amtrak service between New York and Philadelphia was temporarily suspended after a train struck a backhoe on the tracks.
