April 17 (UPI) — Former President Teddy Roosevelt was leading the pack in the Washington Nationals’ mascot race Sunday before getting laid out by the Easter Bunny at Nationals Park.

The Nationals hold its traditional mascot race in the fourth inning of every home game. The event features George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson and Roosevelt.

In 2014, the Easter Bunny brought down four competitors in an underhanded pact with William Howard Taft.

It also took out the presidents in 2015.

Last season, the holiday hitter laid the wood once again. Before Sunday’s race Roosevelt tweeted: “I shall be ready.” He was responding to the Twitterverse after it cautioned his imminent demise.

But the Easter Bunny’s latest antics prove it will not be stopped.

Washington beat the Philadelphia Phillies 6-4 in the afternoon National League East showdown.
