Part of hospital in India collapses

BHOPAL, India, April 26 (UPI) —

Part of a hospital building in Bhopal, India, collapsed Friday, leaving some patients trapped in the rubble.

No deaths had been reported Friday evening at the Kasturba Gandhi Hospital, the Press Trust of India reported. Rescuers said some of the patients pulled out of the wreckage had broken bones, while others suffered minor injuries.

The two-story building is about 60 years old.

Police Inspector General Upendra Kumar Jain said the collapse occurred in a portion of the building that was in the midst of construction at about 5:30 p.m., The Wall Street Journal reported. He said 15 people had been rescued and 30 were missing, including patients and hospital staffers.

The collapse was the second this week in South Asia. About 300 people died Wednesday in Bangladesh when an eight-story building housing garment operations fell.
