JoAnn Fleming Joins Breitbart Texas for Weekly Column

HOUSTON, Texas–JoAnn Fleming, a leader of the Texas constitutional conservative movement for over twenty-two years is bringing her political expertise to the readers of Breitbart Texas. Fleming is the two-term chair of the Texas Legislature’s Tea Party Caucus Advisory Committee and serves as executive director of Grassroots America.

Fleming, who hails from Tyler, Texas, will be bringing her grassroots experience and twenty plus years of political relationships to Breitbart Texas to keep our readers connected with the movement that nearly swept state-wide offices in the 2014 Republican primary and runoff election. Fleming also brings her reputation of being a local government expert having served on more than twenty local government boards, task forces and committees.

Welcoming Fleming and her column, Breitbart Texas Managing Director Brandon Darby said, “I love JoAnn. She has always come through and done what she said she would do. She has helped the movement to stop human trafficking in the Texas, and she is a powerhouse. I could go on and on about her contributions to our state.” He added, “We are blessed to have a woman of such character contributing her views and opinions to our site.”

Fleming spoke to this writer about why she is excited about joining the Breitbart Texas team. “I and other TEA party leaders had the privilege of having dinner with Andrew Breitbart in early summer of 2011,” Fleming began. “Andrew was a happy warrior who combined in the most unique way a razor-sharp wit, a warm sense of humor, and a fervent, ‘run to the sound of the guns’ determination to battle liberals and progressives. He was fearless.”

“I see that same fearlessness in Brandon Darby,” she continued, “that same commitment to dig out the truth and expose the lies that–if unchecked–will destroy this country. As a native Texan, I am thrilled and honored to have a chance to help Brandon make Breitbart Texas both a leading news outlet and a ‘new media’ opinion leader to further the mission of the late, great Andrew Breitbart.”

With two terms serving as the Texas Legislature’s Tea Party Advisory Caucus Chair, Fleming has built a solid relationship with both legislators and grassroots and Tea Party activists across the Lone Star State. She has learned how to mobilize the grassroots to help pass solid conservative legislation and well as how to kill “big government” bills.

Currently, Fleming is touring the state with leaders of Texas Right to Life, Texas Eagle Forum, Texans for Fiscal Responsibility and Texas Home School Coalition as part of the Life, Liberty and Property Tour.

As a reader of Breitbart Texas you can expect Fleming will bring her passion and expertise to the pages of our news site. “No matter the topic,” Fleming promised, “the mission of my op-eds will be this charge from Andrew to conservatives:  ‘Walk towards the fire, don’t worry about what they call you. All of those things are said because they want to stop you in your tracks. But if you keep going, you’re sending a message to people who are rooting for you, who are agreeing with you. The message is that they can do it.'”

Her political awards list her as receiving the 2010 Smith County GOP Club President’s Award for Outstanding Service, the 2010 Texas Federation of Republican Women Outstanding Republican Woman and the 2011 Texas GOP Volunteer of the Year for Senate District 3.  However, Fleming boycotted that event award program rather than be used as a prop for the establishment moderates in control of the Texas GOP at that time. In 2012, she was again honored with the Smith County Republican Party’s Outstanding Grassroots Leader Award.

Fleming was an early adopter in the grassroots campaign to elect Ted Cruz to be the freshman senator from Texas. She continues to serve Cruz as a member of the Cruz “Kitchen Cabinet”, a grassroots team of advisors.

Breitbart Texas is proud to add JoAnn Fleming to the growing list of contributors and columnists who make up the team that has been leading conservative journalism since Breitbart’s entrance to the Texas market in February.
