House Intelligence Chair Implies Congress Knew About al-Awlaki Strike

CANDY CROWLEY, CNN HOST: I need a quick yes or no from you, about the use of them and using them targeting Americans overseas. Al-Awlaki, a known terrorist, but an American citizen, as well as his son were killed–you have talked about oversight, you think there’s plenty of oversight for this drone program. Were you told in advance of those two killings?

CONGRESSMAN MIKE ROGERS, HOUSE INTELLIGENCE COMMITTEE CHAIR: For the planning purposes of air strikes against terrorists and enemy combatants overseas, yes.

CROWLEY: These specific men?

ROGERS: If people make the target list we know that in advance, there’s appropriate oversight. And then how we target those individuals changes from day to day, but air strikes are certainly a part of that.
