Sprint Cup Driver Austin Dillon: Confederate Flag ‘Definitely a Part of NASCAR’

Just over 24 hours after a brutal wreck, NASCAR’s Austin Dillon shared his thoughts on ESPN’s “SportsCenter” about the Confederate flag controversy in NASCAR, saying the Confederate flag is a part of NASCAR and it has been for a long time, but on the other hand, he stands behind NASCAR’s decision.

Currently, NASCAR is asking fans to refrain from bringing Confederate flags to races, although fans largely ignored it at the Coke Zero 400 in Daytona Beach, FL over the weekend.

“I think that it’s definitely a part of NASCAR. It’s been there for a long time and for me, I’m just trying to get over this wreck right now but, you know, as far as the flag goes, it’s a different topic of discussion. I think we’re moving along as NASCAR is making decisions and I stand behind NASCAR.”
