Border Patrol Agent: Traffic On Border ‘Unseasonably’ High, ‘It’s a Smuggler’s Paradise,’ ‘Very Porous Border’

Border Patrol agent and Vice President of the Border Patrol’s local #3307, the union representing agents in the Rio Grande Valley sector, Chris Cabrera said that traffic on the southern border is “unseasonably” “more than we’ve ever gotten this time of the year” and further described the border as a “smuggler’s paradise” and “very porous” on Monday’s “Laura Ingraham Show.”

Cabrera said of traffic on the border, “we are unseasonably getting more than we’ve ever gotten this time of the year. Usually this time of the year, it slows down and drops off to a trickle, but we’re still very busy down here. People are coming in faster than we can keep track of, people turning themselves in, and people still getting away.”

He added, “It just seems that they’re attacking these loopholes, and they’re exploiting them, and they’re doing a good job, because people are coming in and they’re getting walked out the door that same day, sometimes with an ankle bracelet, sometimes not. And they head off to whatever part of the country they desire, and we’ll never see them again.”

Cabrera further stated that this year has more men travelling with children than last year, but that which people are actually related to each other isn’t very certain, because “we’re going off the honors system.” He continued “it’s a smuggler’s paradise as far as trafficking, sex trafficking goes, because a lot — these kids can’t defend themselves.”

He also said, “our capture rate, which is very low, it’s a very porous border, and it’s hard for us to protect this entire stretch, and we’re getting overrun by people exploiting this loophole.”

Cabrera concluded, “there’s no political willpower to let us do our job. We’re — it’s more — Border Patrol, they’re using us window-dressing, but they’re not really letting us go out there and enforce the laws that are on the books, and do what needs to be done.”
