Bloomberg View columnist and Bloomberg TV host Al Hunt argued that former First Lady Nancy Reagan “was not a good mother” on Friday’s broadcast of Bloomberg TV’s “With All Due Respect.”

Hunt said that while Nancy Reagan was “loyal,” “astute,” and a “formidable person.” She was “Sometimes unpleasant, wasn’t a great mother, but she loved her Ronnie, and she had terrific political instincts.”

Hunt later added, “She was not a good mother. And I think, actually Patti Davis, as moving as she was today, if you really listened to it all, it was clear, she was not a good mother. She was devoted to Ronald Reagan, and anything that got in the way, was a distraction. She had sometimes lavish tastes that were embarrassing for the White House.”

He continued that Nancy Reagan was in the league of influential first ladies, a regard in which she is “underrated” and praised her work after leaving the White House.
