Ashley Judd Nears Twenty-Year Anniversary of Move to Tennessee

Actress Ashley Judd’s Friday speech at George Washington University fueled speculation that she is considering a challenge to Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) as a Democrat in the 2014 Senate race in her native state of Kentucky.

Though she is a fixture at University of Kentucky basketball games, Ms. Judd has lived in a different state for almost twenty years.

A 1999 Elle profile reveals she moved from California to Tennessee in 1993 after her Malibu house burned down and she broke her foot while visiting her family in the city of Franklin.

In addition, she represented Tennessee as a Barack Obama supporting delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 2012.

Judd mentioned in passing during the speech that she used to “winter in Scotland” with her then-husband Dario Franchitti.

McConnell premiered a campaign ad in February which features footage of Judd calling both Tennessee and San Francisco her “home.”
