Happy Independence Day, Chicagoland: 6 Dead, 28 Wounded

Chicago celebrated July 3, Independence Day, and July 5 in true Windy City style, with six killings and 28 wounded. Early on Friday, three people, including a 5-year-old boy, were shot in a West Pullman park. Later on Friday, a man was shot in the hip. A few hours before that, a 7-year-old boy was shot at a Chatham park. Chicago police shot and killed a young man on the South Side. Early Friday morning, another man was found shot dead in Rogers Park. Thursday night, a 31-year-old man was shot by two other men in West Englewood in the South Side.

Thursday afternoon, a 21-year-old man was shot multiple times in East Garfield Park. He later died. That same afternoon, a 36-year-old man was killed after being shot in the head in the Greater Grand Crossing area. Early Thursday morning, two men were shot in the Austin neighborhood. And on Thursday afternoon, Chicago PD shot and killed a 17-year-old who allegedly pointed a gun at the officers.

Wednesday night in Woodlawn, three men were shot, and one was killed. The survivors have not worked with detectives. Wednesday evening, a gunman shot a 24-year-old.
