Obama: 'We're Not Growing as Fast as We Should'

On Friday in a press conference at the White House East Room, President Obama said that he saw attacks on potential Treasury Secretary nominee Lawrence Summers in the same way he saw attacks on National Security Advisor Susan Rice when Obama was considering her as Secretary of State.

He added that he wanted to keep inflation in check and ensure that the “dollar was sound.” The “other mandate is full employment,” he said. “If you look at the biggest challenges we have, it’s not inflation, it’s too many people out of work…too much slack in the economy, and we’re not growing as fast as we should.”

Obama said to Major Garrett of National Journal, “I’d defend you if somebody was saying something untrue about you.”
