Appearing on the inaugural Breitbart News Saturday on Sirius XM Patriot channel 125, Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) said that it was important to take what he called the conservative reform agenda to early presidential primary states like Iowa and New Hampshire.
Speaking to Breitbart News Executive Chairman Stephen K. Bannon–who, along with a rotation of Breitbart News editors and contributors, will host the weekly show from 10 AM to 1 PM EST–Lee said that one of most important things going forward is first “figuring out which tasks are appropriate for the federal government and which tasks are not appropriate” and “which actor within the federal government has the authority to undertake which tasks.” Lee said that was the first step in a conservative reform agenda that can help working-class Americans.
Lee, who will appear at a Freedom Summit event on April 12 in New Hampshire with potential GOP 2016 presidential contenders, said states like Iowa and New Hampshire serve as headwaters, which is why it is important to take the reform agenda to those states.
Lee called for a constitutional conservatism that makes life better for working-class families and promoted reforms that dealt with transportation and would put the federal gas tax back in the states. He called for a simplification of the tax code that would include a 15% flat-rate option that would be subject to deductions. Lee said that would lower the rates and broaden the base so more people have skin in the game.
Lee said that when the federal government is operating, it must do so in a way that respects individuals and does not “punish hard-working american families.”
