Macy's to Get a Jump on Christmas, Will Open at 6PM Thanksgiving

Black Friday is already being planned, with Macy’s first out of the gate to divulge that it is opening earlier than ever at 6 PM on Thanksgiving Day.

In a statement, Macy’s said the opening time is “in response to the significant, sustained customer interest in last year’s opening on Thanksgiving.”

Last year Macy’s opened at 8 PM on Thanksgiving Day, and in years past the famed retailer opened at midnight.

The company went on to note that most of its Christmas shifts have already been filled by employees seeking overtime.

Macy’s may be only the first of many retailers opening at 6 PM on Thanksgiving this year. Many of the nation’s biggest chain retailers opened at 8 PM just as Macy’s did last year, and with Macy’s already announcing a 6 PM opening it is likely others will follow.
