In an open letter opposing efforts to expand campus carry around the country, Michael Bloomberg-funded Everytown for Gun Safety demanded an apology from two Republicans who are pushing campus carry as a way for college women to protect themselves against sexual assault.

In other words, the GOP must apologize for using campus carry for women’s safety.

In the letter, Everytown calls out Nevada Assemblywoman Michele Fiore (R) and Florida state Representative Dennis Baxley (R).

They point to one of Fiore’s recent statements, in which she said, “If these young, hot little girls on campus have a firearm, I wonder how many men will want to assault them.” Everytown is demanding an apology for that statement.

Everytown then points to Baxley’s suggestion that a woman with a gun has a better chance fending off an attacker than a woman without a gun, and that armed women “could prevent their own rape.” Everytown is specifically demanding an apology for these suggestions also.

Everytown then equates campus carry with “forcing guns on college campuses.” The gun control group asserts that it is a move that will “arm assailants” and will provide them “yet another tool of violence against their victims.” Everytown does not, however, explain this reasoning.
