President Obama praised Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid today after the Nevada Democrat announced he won’t run for re-election in 2016.

“Harry Reid is a fighter,” Obama said, praising Reid for his efforts to pass Obamacare and other Democratic policies. “He’s never backed down from a tough decision, or been afraid to choose what is right over what is easy.”

“As the leader of the Senate Democrats during my time in office, Harry has become not only an ally, but a friend,” Obama said. “I’m proud of all we have accomplished together, and I know the Senate will not be the same without him.”

Although Reid has decided to retire, Obama noted that the pair have almost two more years left in office to work on their policy agendas.

“I look forward to working with him to keep fighting for every American over the next two years, and Michelle and I wish him and Landra well in whatever the future holds.”
