George Zimmerman was shot at and injured Monday morning in Lake Mary, Florida. WFTV reporter Karla Ray tweeted that “inside sources say #Zimmerman injuries may only be from glass- shot was fired through passenger window.”

Zimmerman’s lawyer confirmed that he wasn’t seriously injured after “a bullet missed Zimmerman’s head” when he was shot at in his car. Officials said the injury appears to be minor and Zimmerman has been released from the hospital.

Zimmerman came to national fame after he fatally shot teenager Trayvon Martin and was subsequently acquitted of murder in 2013.

The Zimmerman/Martin case became a national focus with demonstrations, outrage involving national figures like Pres. Obama and the Rev. Al Sharpton, and vicious press attacks including NBC selectively editing an audio recording of Zimmerman to make him sound racist.

The headline CNN ran for today’s story was, “George Zimmerman Involved in Shooting,” giving no indication that Zimmerman was the victim.

On Twitter, many reacted happily to reports of Zimmerman being shot:

The Trayvon Martin shooting is considered by many to be the start of the Black Lives Matter movement.
