According to a report from The Washington Post’s Sean Sullivan, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) is scheduled to attend a Washington, DC fundraiser held on Sen. Luther Strange’s (R-AL) behalf on Thursday.

Strange is facing a tough challenge in his bid for Alabam’s U.S. Senate seat formerly held by Jeff Sessions from former Alabama Supreme Court Chief Justice Roy Moore.

Moore and Strange are both vying for the Republican nomination in the special election, which will be decided in a runoff on September 26. The winner contest will face former Clinton U.S. Attorney Doug Jones, the Democratic nominee, in an election on December 12.

Sullivan reports attendees are “encouraged” to give $2,000 if they are an individual and $5,000 if they are a political action committee.

McConnell and his Senate Leadership Fund super PAC have invested heavily in the Alabama contest for Strange’s effort, including $2.5 million for this month’s runoff. Much of that has come in the form of attack ads aimed at his opponents, Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL) in the GOP primary last month and Moore in the runoff.
