The organizers of the anti-Trump women’s march held the day after President Donald Trump was inaugurated as the 45th President of the United States are planning a redux this weekend in Las Vegas, Nevada, and other cities around the United States.
“Women’s March has created a powerful movement that has ignited thousands of activists and new leaders,” Tamika D. Mallory, co-president of Women’s March, is quoted as saying on the march’s website.
“In 2018, we must turn our work into action ahead of the midterms,” Mallory said. “This new initiative will address voter registration and voter suppression head on.”
“We marched for justice in DC, we created our plan in Detroit, and now we’re bringing the power of the polls to Nevada,” Mallory said.
This year’s march has been dubbed “Power to the Polls.”
Anti-semitic, pro-Palestinian activist Linda Sarsour, co-chairman of the march, credits black women for defeating Alabama U.S. Senate candidate Roy Moore.
“In Alabama, black women delivered as they always do,” Sarsour is quoted as saying on the website. “In addition to being willing to follow and support Black women, we all must commit to fighting the systemic voter suppression laws that inhibit so many of our communities from voting.”
The Las Vegas event takes place on Sunday, with some others planned for Saturday around the U.S. and in other countries, according to Sister March. A march is planned for Saturday in Washington, DC, the site of the first march in January 2017:

Following the anniversary events, the founders of the Women’s March will start a national tour of 10 swing states to motivate citizens into political action. They’ll partner with local progressive groups in each place to host town halls, candidate trainings, rallies and voter registration events ahead of the next wave of elections.
The march now has state coordinators across 35 states, as well as 5,500 local groups called “huddles” across all 50 states with the goal of keeping the momentum of resistance going year-round.
Featured speakers at the Las Vegas event include:
— Cecile Richards, president of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America, the largest abortion provider in the United States
— Alicia Garza, co-founder of Black Lives Matter and special projects director of the National Domestic Workers Alliance
— Melissa Harris-Perry, former MSNBC hostess, who has advocated for state ownership of children and has compared police to Islamic terrorists.
— Anna Galland, executive director of the George Soros-funded MoveOn.org
— Maria Urbina, national political director at Indivisible, a group with the mission to “resist” the president and his policies.
U.S. lawmakers taking part include Reps. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) and John Lewis (D-GA).
Celebrities who will perform at the event include actress Marisa Tomei and singer/songwriter Faith Evans.
