An elderly couple incorrectly assumed to be the parents of George Zimmerman sued director Spike Lee last year after he shared their home address via Twitter.
Now, the actual parents of the Florida man acquitted of second degree murder of Trayvon Martin are suing Roseanne Barr for sharing their address via Twitter.
Robert Zimmerman Sr. and his wife, Gladys, filed a lawsuit Monday alleging that the 61-year-old comedian tried to “incite a lynch mob to descend” on their Lake Mary, Fla., home.
They say the actress made them leave their property in the middle of the night two years ago, on March 29, 2012, after they feared they’d become the victims of “vigilante justice.”
Barr tweeted the location of the couple’s home to her many followers after Martin’s death, but she didn’t stop there.
She then followed it up with several other messages, including: “If Zimmerman isn’t arrested I’ll rt (re-tweet) his address again — maybe go 2 his house myself.”
Lee currently has more than 569,000 followers, while Barr boasts more than 231,000 at the moment.
One doesn’t need a law degree to understand the potential harm done by both Lee and Barr, yet neither Hollywood talent paid an iota of a price for their actions. The legal community may see it differently, though.
