While celebrities such as Kate Hudson, Khloe Kardashian, Gisele Bundchen, and Reese Witherspoon spent Mother’s Day paying tribute to the special women in their lives, Lena Dunham observed the holiday by asking others to join her in protecting abortion rights on social media.
The star and creator of the HBO series Girls has been a vocal proponent for abortion throughout her career, and as the aforementioned stars were paying homage to the ladies who gave them life Sunday, Dunham was reminding her two million Twitter followers she believes life should be given strictly by choice.

The 28-year-old, whose own pro-choice art-dealing mother, Laurie Simmons, instilled in her feminist ideals at an early age, spoke to Observer in a joint interview with her mom in November of 2014; one of the topics being abortion.
“She was part of a group in New York called WAC, Women’s Action Coalition that was a downtown feminist group dealing with, right after abortion became legal, trying to keep that accessible and easy and trying to clear some of the stigma around it,” she said of her mom, who interjected: “I took you to Washington for a couple things and I did clinic defense in Buffalo.”
Dunham’s feminist pro-choice ideals have stayed with her through her career ascent, and she’s been praised as an icon for championing abortion rights. In 2013, she tweeted:
When I was pretty young my mother taught me to say say anti-choice instead of pro-life. We are ALL pro-life.

The actress indeed has quite a history of supporting abortion-related causes on social media.
After NBC refused to air an ad for the film Obvious Child in 2014 because it included the word “abortion,” the network felt the ire of both Planned Parenthood and Dunham.

While Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge have finally come up with a name for their new addition, a girl, Dunham took to Twitter last September after hearing the news of a second royal baby to ask about Kate’s intentions with the pregnancy.
She jested about the fate of baby Charlotte Elizabeth Diana:
Kate Middleton is pregnant! Will she keep it?
