His ‘Trump University’ faced with a lawsuit from New York state, Donald Trump compared the action to the IRS scandal and suggested President Obama and New York’s attorney general may have planned the suit in order to smear him as an “outspoken critic of the president.”
Mr. Trump was responding to the lawsuit filed Saturday by Eric Schneiderman, a Democrat, in which the attorney general charged the real estate mogul with running a bait-and-switch scam with his former “Trump University.” The suit seeks $40 million in restitution for the alleged defrauding of consumers.
Trump called into “Fox & Friends” today, calling Schneiderman a publicity seeking “political hack.”
Over the weekend, a Trump lawyer also labeled the suit “extortion,” given that Trump previously contributed $12,500 to Schneiderman’s first campaign in 2010.
