Chris Farley's Awesome Matt Foley Skit as it Appeared Years Earlier

One of my favorite SNL skits of all time is Chris Farley as motivational speaker Matt Foley. He’s the guy who lives in a van down by the river.

Collider highlights a video uploaded to You Tube Monday which shows Farley performing the skit years earlier at Second City. The video description says this was opening night in 1990, which would make it three years before it appeared on SNL in 1993. That’s Tim Meadows as the son (Farley’s friend David Spade played the son in the SNL version.)

According to Wikipedia (reliability unknown) there were plans to make the skit into a feature film before Farley died in 1997. As a fan of Farley’s other movies, especially Tommy Boy, I would have loved to see that film. Here’s the Matt Foley skit as it appeared at Second City:
