Bob Price - BBTX ProfileThe Amarillo Department of Public Health has sounded the all-clear for now on the patient who is being monitored for possible exposure to the Ebola virus. Two people who had recently traveled from Liberia in West Africa to the United States were transported to Northwest Texas Hospital after the child developed a fever. All of the people who were traveling in this group are being monitored for any potential development of Ebola symptoms.

The patient who was transported to the hospital on Tuesday tested negative for the Ebola virus in both the initial and the follow-up tests, according to a statement from the Amarillo Bi-City-County Health District. The child’s mother went to the hospital to stay with the child and is also being monitored.

“The test results confirm that the patient does NOT have Ebola,” Community Relations Coordinator Sonja Gross wrote in the statement. “The health department will continue to monitor the patient and other travelers for the duration of the 21-day in-home isolation monitoring period.”

Breitbart Texas reported earlier on Friday that Dr. Ako Bradford with the Health Department said, “Remember, the likelihood of contracting Ebola is extremely low unless a person has direct unprotected contact with the blood or body fluids (like urine, saliva, feces, vomit, sweat, and semen) of a person who is sick with Ebola.”
