A State representative from the Mexican state of Sinaloa has been taken to court under guard in connection to an ongoing investigation into her links to Mexican drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman Loera.

On Wednesday evening, Mexican federal intelligence agents served a presentation warrant against Lucero Sanchez Lopez who has since been transferred to Mexico City where she is expected to go before a judge for questioning.

Sanchez Lopez was a state representative with the National Action Party (PAN) who was publicly outed in recent days by Mexican Attorney General Arely Gomez for having spent the night of New Year’s Eve with El Chapo.

According to public statements made by Gomez the drug lord spent the night of Christmas Eve with his wife Emma Coronel and New Year’s with Sanchez Lopez. According to various news outlets in Mexico, Sanchez Lopez is believed to have had a child with Guzman.

Mexico’s PGR has also pointed out in the past that the Mexican politician is believed to have visited Guzman when he was in prison. The information was made public by the PGR months before Guzman escaped from prison a second time. According to the PGR, when Guzman was being held at the Altiplano prison he was visited by a woman who used her voter’s card and her birth certificate to identify herself as part of the entry process.

As previously reported by Breitbart Texas, Guzman escaped from Altiplano in July by going through a mile long tunnel while prison guards played video games. After months on the run, Mexican authorities caught up with Guzman in Los Mochis, Sinaloa where they arrested him after a fierce firefight and manhunt. After his arrest, Guzman drew even more controversy when Rolling Stone published a story about an interview that he had with Hollywood activist Sean Penn and soap opera starlet Kate Del Castillo. Since  then, Del Castillo whom El Chapo was infatuated with, has become the target of a money laundering investigation.
