A Texas mother faces charges of child endangerment after her two-year-old son tested positive for methamphetamine and heroin via breastfeeding.

The Travis County Sheriff’s Office arrested 34-year-old Krystal Lynn Sherman for allegedly passing drugs to her son while breastfeeding. Court documents obtained by FOX5 in Austin, Texas, revealed that the toddler tested positive for methamphetamine and a substance known as 6-mam. The 6-mam substance is reportedly only found in heroin.

“This is insanity, it’s complete insanity what’s going on and now I’m being told by CPS that they had doctors look at the levels of meth and heroin that were in my son’s system — permanent damage,” Zachary Sherman, the father of the 2-year-old boy told Fox5.

Sherman divorced the child’s mother some time ago. He said he noticed something was not right when he was dropping the toddler off after his custody period.

“I picked him up and he smelt like an ashtray,” the father explained, “and she was acting very erratic and extremely defensive and I thought, you know, those are signs of drug use.”

Sherman said he expected to find something in the drug test ordered by CPS officials. “But nowhere near as much as what I found and I didn’t know what mam-6 was until the court date and they said what it was and I started crying in court,” he said.

Court documents revealed that doctors tested hair samples on the child and found evidence of methamphetamine and the 6-mam substance. Krystal Sherman allegedly told authorities that she used drugs while she was breastfeeding the child.

CPS officials and the woman’s attorney would not comment to FOX5 about the pending case.
