WSJ: Trace amounts of phenytoin, the active ingredient in Pfizer’s anti-seizure drug Dilantin, were also found in some of the supplements. Another mystery ingredient was phenolphthalein, once used in over-the-counter laxatives. But FDA classified phenolphtalein as “not generally recognized as safe and effective†in 1999 after some studies found it carried a cancer risk.
