Tuesday MSNBC played a clip of 2020 presidential hopeful, former Vice President Joe Biden commenting on President Donald Trump’s trade dispute with China.
Biden said, “Come on, man. Look, the fact of the matter is, what we were doing—you can’t get much done on trade relative to China by engaging in a trade war that only hurts working people and farmers. What you have to do is you need the whole world, and the folks who agree with us, who are getting beat up by China, working together. But he’s alienated most of our allies.”
He continued, “In the past, the way we have gone about this is we gotten the rest of the world to say yeah that’s right China If you don’t stop stealing our intellectual property if you don’t, go on down the line and the things we have a problem with. But he’s so alienated the rest of the world. I don’t know how you think you are going to fundamentally change China going it alone. You poke our friends in the eye and then you say we are going to get a trade war with China. Who is getting hurt so far? Who is getting hurt? He should have labor at the table and the rest of our allies at the table in terms of the negotiation with China on trade, period.”
