Dem Sen. Coons: ‘I Strongly Disagree’ with How Trump Is ‘Wildly’ Swinging at China on Tariffs

Tuesday, Sen. Chris Coons (D-DE) shared his opposition on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” to how President Donald Trump is handling the trade war with China.

Coons said he agrees the United States needs to “get tough” on China for stealing intellectual property, but he said he “strongly” disagrees with how “wildly” he is swinging at the Chinese with tariffs.

“I do agree that it’s important that we get tough on China’s intellectual property theft and the ways in which they’ve forced American companies to transfer technology, but I strongly disagree with the way [Trump] has been swinging the club of tariffs wildly, hitting our closest allies, Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, Mexico, Japan, on his route towards a conflict with China,” Coons advised.
