Sirius/XM star and Marine Corps veteran James P. Connolly is gearing up for his 5th Annual Veterans Day Benefit Show, “Cocktails & Camouflage,” at Flappers Comedy Club in Burbank, California.
The event, on Thursday, Nov. 6, will feature stand-up from Frazer Smith, Mark Eddie, and Blake Clark, to name a few. All proceeds will benefit the non-profit Veterans in Film & Television.
VFT, an organization for the education and networking of veterans, strives to keep active and retired members of the armed forces united while working together in the entertainment industry. The group also hopes to create an awareness that veterans have a strong presence in Hollywood.
Aside from this year’s performers, the comedy event will show the trailer for the upcoming film Where Heaven and Hell Collide, due in theaters on Memorial Day, 2016. The film follows the lives of injured veterans at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and features American military veterans as themselves.
All proceeds from the film project will be donated to the Gary Sinise foundation for veterans. Fritz Coleman, Harry Basil, Karen Rontowski were among the many guests who performed at last year’s event, and promoters are excited about the lineup for this year.
In addition to making VFT this year’s beneficiary, Connelly wrote a blog piece to its members who wish to transition into a career of stand-up comedy from the military, as he did.
“If people are looking for a way to say thanks to servicemen and women, I invite them to come out and share a laugh! Comedy and the military have a long history together, going back to Bob Hope and the USO. Come on out to Burbank and continue the tradition,” said Connelly.
