Pamela Geller’s American Freedom Defense Initiative has launched another volley of banners around San Francisco targeting Islamists, this time showing a photo of a meeting between Adolf Hitler and Haj Amin al-Husseini, the Grand Muft of Jerusalem who in 1941 tried to persuade Hitler and other Nazi leaders to extend their genocide of the Jews into the Arab world.

The San Francisco Chronicle reports that 50 banners went up January 9. The banners’ text reads: “Islamic Jew-Hatred: It’s in the Quran. Two-thirds of all U.S. aid goes to Islamic countries. Stop the hate. End all aid to Islamic countries.”

The city of San Francisco tried to stifle Geller’s ads that ran in 2013. Those ads ran on 10 buses with pictures of Osama bin Laden and one of the victims of the Fort Hood mass shooting, along with quotes such as “Killing Jews is worship that brings us closer to Allah.” The city’s leaders condemned the ads, but the ads were protected by the First Amendment. At the same time, a San Francisco-based group called the Bay Area Art Queers Unleashing Power (BAAQUP) defaced the ads by posting messages covering them.

Geller’s 2012 campaign featured ads stating, “In any war between the civilized man and the savage, support the civilized man. Support Israel. Defeat Jihad.”

Muni gave the ad money from the 2012 and 2013 campaigns to the Human Rights Commission. Its spokesman, Paul Rose, responded to the latest ads by saying, “We understand and apologize that people could be offended by these ads. Neither the city nor Muni endorse the content of these negative ads. However, the First Amendment protects freedom of speech, including speech that is considered offensive.”
