The gun with which Juan Francisco Lopez Sanchez allegedly shot and killed Kathryn Steinle on July 3 belonged to a federal agent.
The gun was reportedly at .40 caliber and was allegedly stolen from a federal agent’s car in June.
According to the San Francisco Chronicle, the gun “was apparently not the agent’s official gun,” but one he kept in his car for backup. No official word has been released as to which federal agency the agent belonged. And there was no clarification on whether Sanchez stole the gun himself or whether he bought it afterward from whoever did steal it.
Either way, his attainment of a firearm suggests the impotence of gun control–showing just how powerless California’s expanded background checks, “high capacity” magazine ban, and gun registration requirements are against criminals.
Breitbart News previously reported that Sanchez was deported to Mexico five times previously and has seven felony charges on his record. But he was on the street, and even after the heinous death of Kathryn Steinle, San Francisco’s Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi has defended his decision to release of Sanchez from jail in April.
