An expectant couple’s little bundle of joy was unable to wait until his parents reached the hospital, so he entered the world in the parking lot of a Taco Bell drive-thru in Bakersfield, California on Tuesday.

Kern County Firefighter Patrick Snowling responded to the scene along with two fellow firefighters, according to ABC News affiliate KERO. He was put in charge of caring for the baby until mother and child were transferred to the hospital.

He called the situation “unique.”

“I’ve never really heard of a case where a baby’s been delivered in the parking lot of a Taco Bell at 2:30 in the morning,” he told KERO.

Parents Irving and Gladys Perez were on their way to the San Joaquin Hospital along with the grandmother from their home in Wasco when Gladys told them the baby was coming.

Perez reportedly delivered the baby in the passenger’s side seat of the car with the help of the grandmother, firefighters and an ambulance crew, according to BakersfieldNow.

KERO notes that the family was taken to San Joaquin Community Hospital after the delivery.

Hospital officials reportedly refused to comment on mom or baby’s condition.
