The BBC, Britain’s left-leaning state broadcaster has hired bodyguards to protect their political editor Laura Kuenssberg at the annual Labour Party conference in Brighton after she received threats from Labour activists, according to claims in a Sunday newspaper.
The BBC journalist has received a “stream” of abuse and threats from online supporters of Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn, it is claimed, after Kuenssberg caused affront by appearing biased against the politician, reports the Sun on Sunday. There was even a campaign and online petition launched to have her removed from her role for reporting on negative trends within the Labour party.
The paper reports abuse against the political editor was particularly acute after the botched cabinet reshuffle attempt by Corbyn in 2016, which saw many front bench seats unfilled. Abuse again intensified after Labour’s poor local elections performance.
Now she has to have security at the Labour annual conference, which is taking place in Brighton over the course of this weekend. It is not clear what form this security will take.
The BBC has refused to comment on the matter.
Breitbart London reported in May on an unrelated incident when a car chauffering Jeremy Corbyn accidentally ran over a BBC cameraman accompanying Kuenssberg as they reported on the leak of the Labour manifesto.
