Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei said Wednesday the United States will fall because Islamic teachings have predicted its demise.

Khamenei said all of America’s “plots” to “overthrow” the Islamic Republic “have failed,” before going on to say that, instead, “We do not doubt the defeat of the enemy, and anyone who is familiar with Islamic teachings knows this.”

According to Iran’s state-run Press TV, Khamenei delivered the remarks during a meeting with heads of the three branches of the Iranian government as well as officials in Tehran.

The supreme leader added his belief that the United States was using Iran’s nuclear program as an excuse to cover up for its true “enmity towards the country,” which he claimed is in particular against Iran’s Islamic establishment. “The United States wants to eliminate the components of power in the Islamic Republic,” Khamenei reportedly said.

During his speech, Khamanei also called upon Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) “to be ready” to restart nuclear activities “if necessary and in case the JCPOA proves to be useless,” saying, “If the Europeans hesitate to respond to our demands, Iran reserves the right to restart its suspended nuclear activities.”

In statements Khamenei delivered on May 9, and published to his website on Wednesday, Khamenei said that just as “the bodies of several past presidents [of USA] have become worm food, and their bones have turned into dust” so too “the body of this man [Trump] will nourish worms and rodents, too, his bones will be dust, but the Islamic Republic will still be standing, stronger than ever: these statements cover my thoughts on the US.”

In a Tuesday speech at the Heritage Foundation, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo promised the United States would deliver the toughest sanctions Iran has seen.

On Tuesday and Thursday, the U.S. Treasury Department sanctioned a series of Iranian individuals and corporations, including several affiliated in four Iranian airlines and Turkish companies.
