Alfonso Ribeiro posts final photo with James Van Der Beek

James Van Der Beek to miss 'Dawson's Creek' reunion reading

Feb. 13 (UPI) — The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air alum and Dancing with the Stars host Alfonso Ribeiro shared his final photo with the late actor James Van Der Beek Thursday.

Van Der Beek, who was well-known for starring in Dawson’s Creek, died following a battle with colorectal cancer, his family confirmed Wednesday. He was 48.

Ribeiro shared an image of himself embracing Van Der Beek, who was in a hospital bed.

Van Der Beek’s wife, Kimberly, took the photograph, Ribeiro stated.

“My last moment was making him laugh one last time,” he wrote in the caption. “I really miss him already.”

Ribeiro earlier posted an image with Van Der Beek following a meal.

“I’m so broken right now with the passing of my friend,” he captioned the image. “He was my true friend, brother and life guide. I was with him through this horrible journey to beat cancer. His family and friends went on this roller coaster ride — the highs when it looked like he had it beat to the breaking lows of it coming back. I’ve learned so much from James.”

He said that Van Der Beek and Kimberly Van Der Beek altered his life.

“I love you James and know I have a guardian angel watching over me. Being able to say goodbye this weekend will always live with me,” he added.

Van Der Beek had recently starred in Overcompensating and Elle.

Other stars to post tributes include Katie Holmes, Krysten Ritter and Kevin Smith.
