Mickelson wins his first Open

Phil Mickelson of the United States won his first British Open at Muirfield on Sunday by three strokes from Henrik Stenson of Sweden.

Mickelson’s final round of 66, five-under-par, gave him a three-under-par total of 281.

It was Mickelson’s fifth major title, after the Masters of 2004, 2006 and 2010 and the 2005 PGA Championship, and comes one month after he suffered a record sixth runner-up finish at the US Open.
