Former sex worker charged with shooting up Miami-area Trump resort

June 8 (UPI) — A former sex worker accused of opening fire at the Trump National Doral resort in Florida last month was charged in the shooting Friday.

Suspect Jonathan Oddi, 42, was shot by police after the May 18 shooting at the resort near Miami. Officials said he began ranting about President Donald Trump and fired several shots in the hotel lobby while draped in an American flag.

Oddi was booked into jail after being hospitalized for a few days.

Charges filed by the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office include attempted murder of law-enforcement officers, armed burglary and armed grand theft. He pleaded not guilty in court Friday.

Defense attorneys Christopher DeCoste and Tara Kawass apologized at the hearing on behalf of Oddi and said he is “extremely sorry” about the shooting — and thanked officers who “skillfully diffused the situation without loss of life.”

Oddi was once a stripper for a South Florida website that produced videos of boisterous stage parties.
