Jan. 15 (UPI) — Immigration and Customs Enforcement Deputy Director Madison Sheahan resigned Thursday to vie for the Republican Party’s nomination to run for a U.S. House seat representing Ohio.
Sheahan launched her campaign in a field that has many seeking the GOP nomination for Ohio’s 9th Congressional District.
“I’m a Trump conservative running for Congress to protect American jobs, American paychecks and American values,” she said in a post on X.
“No excuses. Let’s get this done,” Sheahan added.
She posted a 2-minute video detailing how she was raised on her family’s farm in Curtice, Ohio, which she said taught her to “be tough, get the job done and make no excuses.”
Sheahan said she “answered the call” to become a member of ICE to clean up the “immigration mess” and make the country safer for Americans and their families.
She helped ICE to hire 12,000 agents and to manage its $85 billion budget, while more than 2.5 million “illegal immigrants” left the country.
Sheahan formerly was secretary of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and held senior leadership positions within Kristi Noem’s administration while Noem was the governor of South Dakota.
Sheahan became Noem’s second-in-command after the Senate confirmed Noem as secretary of the Department of Homeland Security.
Rep. Marcy Kaptur, a Democrat, has represented Ohio’s 9th Congressional District since 1983.
The district occupies the northwestern corner of Ohio, from Vermillion in the east to the Indiana border to the west, and includes the greater Toledo area.
