March 6 (UPI) — Jessie Buckley’s performance in Hamnet has so far earned her accolades at the Golden Globes, Critics Choice, BAFTAs and Actor Awards.
Her portrayal of Agnes in the film has also secured an Oscar nomination. The movie, which takes its inspiration from a historical fiction novel by Maggie O’Farrell, follows Agnes and William Shakespeare (Paul Mescal) as they mourn the loss of their son Hamnet (Jacob Jupe).
The Irish actress, 36, is also getting attention for starring opposite Christian Bale in the Maggie Gyllenhaal-directed Frankenstein film The Bride!, which arrives in theaters Friday.
In that feature, Buckley’s Ida is brought back to life as a companion for Frankenstein.
But Buckley has been delivering standout performances for years.
Here are five roles that showcase Buckley’s range beyond Hamnet.
‘Wild Rose’
Buckley’s breakout performance came in the 2018 feature Wild Rose, in which she portrayed Glasgow singer Rose-Lynn Harlan who takes a cleaning job following her release from jail.
She has two children and a dream of singing country music.
Tom Harper helms the film, which also stars Julie Walters and Sophie Okonedo.
‘Chernobyl’
The HBO miniseries arrived in 2019 and followed the 1986 nuclear disaster.
Buckley portrayed Lyudmilla Ignatenko, starring opposite Jared Harris, Stellan Skarsgard and Emily Watson.
The five-part series was so popular that it sparked tourism to Ukraine.
“If you visit please remember that a terrible tragedy occured there. Comport yourselves with respect for all who suffered and sacrificed,” said Craig Mazin, who penned the show and produced it.
‘I’m Thinking of Ending Things’
The 2020 psychological horror follows Buckley’s character as she weighs breaking things off with Jesse Plemons’ Jake during a trip to meet his parents.
Toni Collette and David Thewlis portray his parents.
The film, which takes its inspiration from a novel by Iain Reid, is helmed by Charlie Kaufman.
‘Fargo’ Season 4
Buckley portrayed Oraetta Mayflower in Season 4 of Fargo (2020), which follows a fragile peace between rival crime organizations in Kansas City, Mo., during 1950.
Jason Schwartzman, Ben Whishaw, Chris Rock, Jack Huston, Salvatore Esposito, Andrew Bird, Jeremie Harris, Gaetano Bruno, Anji White, Francesco Acquaroli, E’myri Crutchfield and Amber Midthunder also starred in the season.
Noah Hawley created the series.
‘The Lost Daughter’
The Bride!’s Maggie Gyllenhaal also helmed the Oscar-nominated drama The Lost Daughter (2021), which marked the director’s first time working with Buckley.
Buckley portrayed Leda in the film, the younger version of Olivia Colman’s character. Dakota Johnson, Ed Harris, Peter Sarsgaard, Dagmara Dominczyk and Mescal also starred in the film.
“A woman’s beach vacation takes a dark turn when her obsession with a young mother forces her to confront the secrets of her past,” an official synopsis reads.
