Joan Collins named a dame for acting career

LONDON, Dec. 31 (UPI) — Actress Joan Collins was made a dame by Queen Elizabeth Tuesday night, along with fellow actors John Hurt and Kristen Scott Thomas, this year’s new honorary dames and knights.

“When I first heard, I really couldn’t quite believe it,” Collins said according to Vouge.

The former Dynasty star was previously named a Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1997, but that honor was bequeathed for Collins’ charitable endeavors.

“Although quite a few people have been saying for some time maybe it was going to happen, I never ever believed it. But I’m, delirious, thrilled excited and very, very honored.”

In addition to Collins, John Hurt was also knighted, along with Kristin Scott Thomas, while Emily Watson, James Corden and Sheridan Smith were named Officers of the Order of the British Empire. All told 1,251 people were recognized at the Royal Family’s 2015 New Year Honors, 38 of whom were named knights.
