Libya strongman’s forces say they recaptured key oil ports

Benghazi (Libya) (AFP) – Forces led by military strongman Khalifa Haftar, which dominate eastern Libya, said Thursday they had recaptured two key oil export terminals from a rival militia.

“Our armed forces have full control of the Ras Lanuf region,” spokesman Ahmed al-Mesmari said, confirming that Haftar’s forces had also seized the Al-Sidra terminal.

Haftar earlier Thursday announced an offensive to recapture the terminals from the Petroleum Facilities Guard after a week of clashes that slashed output.
