Sept. 5 (UPI) — An Illinois mother who had been “very invested” in the triple-murder trial of Lindsay Clancy was charged with the murder of her 2-year-old son on Friday, police said.
Corie A. Walsh, 40 of Frankfort, was charged with three counts of first-degree murder on Friday, NBC News reported.
Her 2-year-old son, Barrett Walsh, was found hanging in the basement while Walsh was in a bathtub upstairs attempting suicide.
Prosecutors said Walsh had “recently become very invested in the Lindsay Clancy murder trial.”
She had been “actively discussing the case” in group text messages with friends just hours before her child was found dead.
The jury in Clancy’s trial for the murder of her three children was still deliberating on Tuesday when police responded to Walsh’s home about 4 p.m.
They found a neighbor performing CPR on the 2-year-old boy. The toddler was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police found Walsh in a bathtub, “surrounded by bloody water,” with cuts to her wrists and thighs.
She told police “she did this to her baby because he was the ‘devil’ and the ‘anti-Christ,'” CBS News reported.
Walsh’s husband was out of town. Her three other children, an infant and two school-age children, were unharmed, police said.
She is scheduled for a court appearance on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
Clancy, 36, admitted to the 2023 slaying of her three children: Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months.
She pleaded not guilty and said she had been suffering from postpartum psychosis and bipolar disorder.
Clancy’s trial ended in a mistrial on Friday.
