Jan. 28 (UPI) — Patrick Reed will leave LIV Golf to return to the PGA Tour, he announced Wednesday.
Reed resigned from the PGA Tour to join the rival, Saudi-funded golf league in 2022. His decision to return to the PGA Tour came about two weeks after fellow golfer Brooks Koepka announced the same move.
The PGA Tour announced a returning member program on Jan. 12, the day of Koepka’s return announcement. The program mandates limitations to tournament access and potential earnings for those who choose to return.
Officials said at the time that they believed the measures “hold returning members accountable for substantial compensation earned elsewhere.”
“I am excited to announce that I am returning to the PGA Tour as a past champion member for the 2027 season and am eligible to begin competing in PGA Tour events later this year,” Reed wrote on social media.
“I will continue to compete and play as an honorary lifetime member on the DP World Tour, which is something that I am truly honored and excited to do. I’m a traditionalist at heart, and I was born to play on the PGA Tour, which is where my story began with my wife, Justine.
“I am very fortunate for the opportunities that have come my way and grateful for the life we have created. I am moving forward in my career, and I look forward to competing on the PGA TOUR and DP World Tour. I can’t wait to get back out there and revisit some of the best places on earth.”

Reed said he learned a lot about himself over the last four years and thanked his supporters for helping him make the decision to leave LIV Golf.
The PGA Tour, which said Koepka could miss out on $50 to $85 million in potential earnings due to a five-year forfeiture of equity in their player equity program, said Reed also will be ineligible from the program through 2030.
“As a result of resigning his membership in 2022 prior to violating any PGA Tour regulations, Patrick is eligible to compete on the PGA Tour as a non-member beginning on Aug. 25,” the PGA Tour said. “He may also pursue improved PGA Tour status via the DP World Tour.”
The PGA Tour season will continue with the Farmers Insurance Open, which will be held from Thursday through Sunday in San Diego. The Tour Championship will be held Aug. 27 through 30 in Atlanta.
Pat Perez, Kevin Na and Hudson Swafford are among the other LIV Golf members who applied for PGA Tour reinstatement.
