Ted Danson’s ‘Man on the Inside’ renewed for Season 3

Feb. 4 (UPI) — Mike Schur’s A Man on the Inside, starring Ted Danson, is returning for Season 3.

The series follows Danson’s Charles Nieuwendyk, a retired widower who becomes a private investigator after answering a newspaper ad.

“I’m so excited to see where Charles Nieuwendyk goes next,” Danson said in an interview with Netflix’s Tudum.

In Season 1, Charles investigated a missing jewelry case in a retirement community. In Season 2, Charles set out to solve a new case as an undercover college professor.

“We we did in Season 2 is try to level (Charles) up,” Schur previously said. “Make the case bigger and more dramatic, make the stakes higher and make his detective work both better and also in some ways worse. That’s the great joy of a show lasting multiple seasons — you get to just add. All of Season 1 is at the foundation of Season 2, and 1 and 2 will be at the foundation of Season 3.”

Schur and Danson previously worked together on The Good Place.

“I’ve been blessed to work with Mike Schur for most of the last decade, and I’m still amazed by what he does,” Danson said. “I’m incredibly thankful to him for creating this character and trusting me with him. The cast and crew make it very hard to call this ‘work.'”

In addition to Danson, Season 2 also starred Mary Elizabeth Ellis, Gary Cole, Mary Steenburgen, Lilah Richcreek Estrada, Stephanie Beatriz, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Max Greenfield, Sam Huntington, Jason Mantzoukas, David Strathairn and Jill Talley.

Steenburgen, Danson’s real-life wife, portrayed his love interest in Season 2.

Danson also discussed the situation when he stopped by Jimmy Kimmel Live Thursday.

“Usually when you have to kiss, you know, another actor, actress, or actor whatever… it’s embarrassing because you have mixed emotions, and it’s weird. But this was Mary. And I got to — I was supposed to be falling in love and it was just fantastic,” he said.
