June 13 (UPI) — Larry Kudlow, President Donald Trump’s senior economic adviser, was discharged from the hospital Wednesday after recovering from a heart attack.

Kudlow, 70, had been treated at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Washington. The White House said he had a “very mild” heart attack on Monday. It’s unclear when he will return to work.

“Doctors say Larry’s recovery is going very well,” White House press secretary Sarah Sanders said in a statement. “The president and the administration are happy Larry is back home and look forward to seeing him back to work soon.”

Trump announced Kudlow’s hospitalization while traveling Monday to Singapore for Tuesday’s summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

Kudlow’s heart attack followed a series of television interviews a day earlier in which he defended Trump’s demeanor and statements at the G7 summit in Canada. In a CNN interview, he said Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau “stabbed us in the back” after Trudeau joined other G7 leaders in objecting to U.S. tariffs on steel and aluminum imports.

Kudlow was a prominent advocate of free trade before he became leader of the White House’s National Economic Council in March, but has since said Trump wants fairness first.
