Cruz Leads Dewhurst by Ten Points Heading into Runoff

Cruz Leads Dewhurst by Ten Points Heading into Runoff

A new poll released on Sunday night showed Tea Party Texas Senate candidate Ted Cruz has widened his lead over Lieutenant Gov. David Dewhurst. Cruz, powered by the Tea Party to what is looking like a “Texas-sized blowout,” now leads Dewhurst by 10 points. And Cruz leads Dewhurst considerably both among voters who have voted and have not voted.

But the Cruz camp — and other prominent Texas and national conservatives — is not taking the runoff for granted. Runoff elections are difficult to poll, and the Cruz campaign is mindful of this.

Cruz Campaign Manager John Drogin wrote that while the Cruz’s campaign’s “momentum is stronger than ever, polls don’t mean anything if our people don’t turnout to vote tomorrow.”

“We need an all hands on deck get-out-the-vote push today and tomorrow,” Drogin urged.

In the message, the Cruz campaign highlights a speech given by Sarah Palin, who campaigned in The Woodlands, TX for Cruz on Friday with South Carolina Senator Jim DeMint.

And Palin, on her Facebook page, posted her support of Cruz and urged conservatives to turn out and vote for Cruz on Tuesday:

Last Friday, I joined with Sen. Jim DeMint, Tea Party Leaders, and thousands of Texas patriots at a rally to get out the vote for Ted Cruz in tomorrow’s run-off election. Ted will serve Texas with distinction as the people’s Senator, not the establishment’s. He will work for all Americans to defend our Constitution and help put the nation’s economy on the right track. Electing Ted will start us down the road of returning power to the people and taking our country back. Texans, I urge you to get out and vote tomorrow for Ted Cruz. Bring your neighbors, friends, and family with you and choose Cruz!
