Senator Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) said on Tuesday that law enforcement may have known in advance about the Boston Marathon suspects’ bombing plans. Speaking to local Atlanta Channel 2 Action News, Chambliss said, “There now appears that may have been some evidence that was obtained by one of the law enforcement agencies that did not get shared in a way that it could have been. If that turns out to be the case, then we have to determine whether or not that would have made a difference.”
If information existed that could have prevented the bombing but was held up by communications gaps between intelligence agencies, that would be a strong case against the growth of the Department of Homeland Security, which was specifically created to facilitate intelligence sharing between intelligence agencies in the aftermath of September 11, 2001.
UPDATE: Sen. Chambliss’ office has contacted Breitbart News with a clarification of his remarks:
Sen. Chambliss did not say the advance info was about the Boston bombings themselves, just that there was info that was not shared correctly, and that the sharing might have made a difference.
