Rep Asks Obama to Ban Import ff 'Lethal Assault Weapons' Following Leland Yee's Arrest

On April 2nd, Representative Jackie Speier (D-CA) asked President Obama “to ban the import of assault weapons” after “the arrest of state senator Leland Yee (D) on gun-trafficking charges.”

According to The SF Examiner, Speier released a statement saying, “The FBI investigation of Leland Yee reveals how easy it is to import lethal assault weapons that were previously banned.”

Yee was indicted after trying to help undercover FBI agents get “$500,000 to $2.5 million” worth of weapons–“including shoulder fired automatic weapons and missiles… from a Muslim separatist group in the Philippines.”

Speier said, “This case should be a warning to us all that even the most trusted appearing among us are ready to do real harm. Since Congress can pass no meaningful gun control laws, even after the mass killing in Newtown, President Obama should use his pen to slow the import of these weapons, which have no place in our homes.”
